CHAPTER SIX: BREAKING POINT
I woke to the sound of skis clattering outside and wind pushing snow off the cabin roof.
The light was different — thinner, colder. Not golden like the morning before, but blue and pale, like even the sun knew we were out of time.
It was the last day.
