I didn’t look back when the elevator doors shut. Just shoved my hands into my jacket pockets and started walking. The ER was behind me. Graham was behind me. The weight in my chest hadn’t lifted, not really, but there was something sharper in its place now. A clarity I wasn’t ready for, but needed all the same.
