✦ A Special Note: A Note on Grit, Strength, & Starting Over

If you’ve been with me for a while, you know this House was built somewhere else.

When Substack removed our publication, we were forced to find a new home. That home is now Ghost.

I’ll be honest: we left behind a platform with built-in discoverability and the ability to reach new readers almost effortlessly. Starting over means rebuilding much of that from the ground up.

But I’ve realized something over the past few months: platforms don’t create communities. People do.

This House was never defined by where it lived. It was defined by the stories we shared and the readers who chose to make them part of their lives.

The stories are still here. The characters are still here. And you’re still here.

That means more than any algorithm ever could.

Growth may look different now. It may be slower. It may require more patience than before. But I’d rather build something lasting than something fleeting. Every new reader who finds the House now does so because someone shared a story, recommended a character, or believed enough in this work to pass it along.

That’s a foundation worth building on.

Adversity has a way of revealing what matters. It strips away everything that isn’t essential and leaves you with a simple question: Was the work worth doing in the first place?

For me, the answer has always been yes.

Grit isn’t pretending something didn’t hurt. It’s acknowledging that it did—and deciding the story isn’t over anyway.

So we started again.

So we’ll keep writing. We’ll keep telling stories that are honest, messy, romantic, heartbreaking, and unapologetically human. And together, we’ll continue building a House that’s defined not by the platform beneath it, but by the people inside it.
